MOM publishes one clear figure: 10 business days to process an Employment Pass application or give you an update. Real time from first advert to a card in hand is longer, because the advertisement, the in-principle approval and the candidate's arrival all sit around that number. Checked on .
How long does MOM take to process an Employment Pass?
MOM's Employment Pass page says an application is "processed or given an update" within 10 business days. Pass issuance is immediate once the candidate is in Singapore and the steps are done.
| Stage | MOM timing |
|---|---|
| Online application by a Singapore-registered employer | Processed or updated within 10 business days |
| Overseas company without Singapore registration | Within 6 weeks for most cases |
| Pass issuance | Immediate |
| Card delivery | Within 5 working days after registration or document verification |
| Appeal after rejection | 85% processed within 6 weeks |
| Renewal | Processed or updated within 10 business days |
An update is not the same as a decision. MOM can ask for more documents, and the clock then depends on how fast you reply.
What does the whole timeline look like?
Add the pieces. These are our reading of MOM's rules, not a MOM promise.
- Advertise on MyCareersFuture for at least 14 consecutive days, unless an exemption applies. See the Fair Consideration Framework page.
- Get the candidate's written consent and complete their form.
- Submit on EP eService and pay the S$105 application fee.
- Wait up to 10 business days for a decision or an update.
- Receive the in-principle approval letter, which gives the candidate 6 months to enter Singapore and get the pass issued.
- Pay the S$225 issuance fee when the pass is issued.
- Register fingerprints and photo if required, then receive the card within 5 working days.
A firm that is exempt from advertising skips step 1. A firm that is not exempt should plan about two weeks for the advertisement before it can even apply. The how to apply page walks through the form side.
Is the old three week figure still right?
No. An older change lengthened EP processing to three weeks, and many agent pages and forum threads still quote it. MOM's current page says 10 business days. Other agents quote 3 to 8 weeks or 4 to 10 weeks for the whole process. Those are agent estimates and not MOM figures. Treat them as a cautious buffer, not a rule.
What slows an application down?
MOM does not publish a list of causes. From the official steps, these are the usual friction points.
- Missing consent from the candidate, or an incomplete form.
- An advertisement that does not match the application. MOM requires the same job and employer, and a salary range that contains the offered salary.
- A new employer profile, or an overseas company with no Singapore registration, which MOM puts at up to 6 weeks.
- A candidate whose salary or points fall short of the criteria. The requirements page shows the floors.
How long does an appeal take?
If MOM rejects the application, you have 3 months to appeal through EP eService. MOM says 85% of appeals are processed within 6 weeks. It also says nothing changes without new information, so file an appeal only when you can fix the reason given. Otherwise a new application may be quicker. The work pass rejection page covers common causes.
How long does a renewal take?
MOM gives the same 10 business days. You can renew up to 6 months before expiry, and it must be filed before the pass expires. Renewal is not guaranteed. See the renewal page.
How do you check where the application is?
Use MOM's check work pass and application status service with your reference. Our status check page shows what each status means.
What should you do while you wait?
- Watch EP eService for requests from MOM and answer the same day.
- Do not book the candidate's flight on the assumption of approval. The in-principle approval letter is the signal that the plan can move.
- Keep the 6 month window in mind. The candidate must enter Singapore and get the pass issued within it.
- Tell the candidate not to start work until the pass is issued.
Does the type of pass change the timing?
MOM gives the S Pass the same 10 business days for an online application. The EP and the S Pass both start with the MyCareersFuture advertisement unless an exemption applies, so the planning is the same. For a Work Permit, the MOM conditions page we read gives no processing time, so confirm it on the Work Permit application pages before you promise a start date.
Independent guide
SingaporeCompanySetupGuide.com is an independent guide, not MOM. We cannot speed up or check an application for you. If you want a provider to prepare and file it, send the quote form on this page. We pass your request to suitable firms and they give their own timing and fees.
